Rich came
to Klamath falls in the early 60s, moving
with his parents who were both in radio from
the Dalles. He attended Peterson grade
school, Altamont Junior High and then Mazama
for one year right after they built it, but
finally graduated from KU in 1972. He then
got a job at Weyerhauser and worked there
for a year.
Problem was, he really wanted to be in
radio, so he went to the Ron Bailie School
of Broadcasting in Portland and graduated
one year later. His first job in radio was
at KUPL-FM in Portland where he was an FM
programmer, however they weren't on the air
yet so he was a behind the scenes type of
guy.
His
first on the air job was in Gresham as a
weekend fill in Jock and he also worked at a
local night club after that in Portland
called Slabtown. But you know disco…..so he
then made the move to full time radio at a
station in McMinville, for the next two
years.
Next up, a move to Newport on the central
Oregon coast where he spent 20 years at KNPT
there and KTDO in Toledo.
Looking for
a change, Rich then headed to Klamath Falls
to go on air here at KIX96.
According
to Rich,
"Its good to be back in my home town working
in radio. Wynne Broadcasting has a way of
attracting good radio people and I hope I'm
one of them"
His
hobbies when he's not announcing are riding
his bike (a five speed with an electric
motor called the Electric Mack Mobile),
watching movies, listening to radio (can you
believe it?) and fixing up his mobile home.
His favorite food is steak, but he is also
one of the original hambuger kids, he's
always looking around town for the best
hambuger, or english muffins with cream
cheese and strawberry jelly and maybe hot
dogs with the works. He is the culinary king
of the radio station.
Finally Rich observes, "Klamath Falls is
truly gods country and I'm proud to be
here……..God bless the United States of
America and our men and women overseas".
